A Ballymun councillor has called for greater Garda resources in the area following a shooting on Monday night.

A man was shot a number of times shortly before 11pm on Monday off Balbutcher Lane in the Balcurris area. The man was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Cllr Noeleen Reilly (Sinn Féin) said additional Garda resources were needed in the Ballymun area to prevent similar incidents happening in future.

“It’s a very unfortunate incident and I hope the person who was shot has no long term injuries,” she said. “We here in Ballymun hope this isn’t related to gangland activity and I would ask the gardaí to ensure that extra resources are put into the area and that it’s monitored.”

Gardaí said no arrests have been made an investigation is ongoing.
