In last Thursday's editions a report headed "Firm to review Co Clare operation as dispute continues" quoted IBEC's regional director, Mr Declan Grogan, as saying: "SIPTU agreed to abandon the seniority principle when negotiating for the redeployment of people within the plant, in order to avert redundancies". Mr Grogan has asked us to point out that what he actually said was: "The union had co-operated with the process of redeployment to other jobs elsewhere on the site and that this was on the basis of skill and aptitude, rather than seniority."
In last Monday's editions a report on the French regional elections, headed "Left reverses balance of power in regional vote", stated that the centre-right was expected to hold the Ile-deFrance region, which it has ruled for the past 26 years. When the final count came in, the left won 86 seats compared with 84 seats for the centre-right, out of a total of 209 in the regional council. But control of the council will not be determined until the election of the regional president next Monday.
In the editions of March 18th an error in Vincent Browne's column gave 1992 instead of 1982 as the date on which Fine Gael won a higher share of the national vote than Fianna Fail did in 1992.
