Connolly Station in Dublin was closed for an hour this morning after staff found a suspicious item overnight.

The incident turned out to be a hoax.

The station re-opened shortly after 9am. A spokesman for Irish Rail said disruption was minimal as trains do not start arriving and departing from the station until about 8.45am on Sundays.

The station also had to be closed for a time on Wednesday morning after a suspicious device was found on Amiens Street.

An Army bomb disposal team attended the scene. The defence forces ascertained the device was "non-viable".
