The Referendum Commission has "insulted" Irish speakers throughout the country, according to Labour TD Mr Michael D. Higgins.

Mr Higgins was commenting on the fact that information published by the Commission will not be available in Irish.

The Labour TD said the Commission have a "statutory duty" to provide an objective overview of the issues involved to the electorate and that Irish language speakers were being "ignored and denied the information they need before going to the polls."

"The Irish language is the first official language and in constitutional terms, the Irish language is the definitive version of the constitution," according to Mr Higgins.
