A number of houses were evacuated in Ballymoney, Co Antrim after a loud bang was heard in the early hours of the morning.

A pipe bomb was later found to have exploded near a car at the rear of Carnany Park in the town at about 4 a.m.

British army bomb disposal experts attended the scene. Nobody was injured.

An RUC spokeswoman said it is not believed the incident was sectarian.

Carnany Park is where boys Richard, Mark and Jason Quinn were killed in July 1998 by a loyalist petrol bomb. The boys, who had a catholic mother, died when their house was set on fire during the Drumcree protests.
