A Dublin man who sued Waterford County Council for personal injuries sustained when he stepped on broken glass while on a beach lost his case yesterday at Waterford Circuit Court.

Mr Gerard O'Neill, of Woodfort Court, Clondalkin, had been holidaying with his family in Tramore in August 1992 when the incident occurred. He told the court that he was carrying a bucket and spade to one of his children when he stepped on the glass. The wound needed several stitches.

A Waterford County Council engineer, Mr Michael Walsh, said that the bathing area of Tramore was cleaned up every morning during the summer months.

Judge Sean O'Leary said that the local authority had a reasonable clean up system. He dismissed the case, awarding costs against the plaintiff.
