Beijing - China yesterday released a dissident journalist, Ms Gao Yu, on medical parole, a Hong Kong-based human rights group said.

Ms Gao was arrested in October 1993 and sentenced a year later to six years' imprisonment for "divulging state secrets" overseas when she worked for the Hong Kong magazine Mirror Monthly and a newspaper in the territory.
