A West African man wanted in the Netherlands where he is accused of trafficking children from Africa to Europe where they are used as prostitutes has been remanded in custody by the High Court.

Peter Kwame Sarfo aka Jackson Smith (38) is wanted by the Dutch authorities who claim that he is involved in the movement of children from Nigeria into a number of different western Europe nations. It is further claimed that these children are initially brought into the Netherlands and then sent on to other countries including Italy and Spain to work as prostitutes.

Mr Justice Michael Peart was told today that lawyers who had previously instructed Mr Sarfo wished to come off record. The court was told that he had decided to instruct a new firm of solicitors. The judge agreed to adjourn the matter for a week to allow Sarfo's new lawyers take instructions.

He also remanded Sarfo in custody at Cloverhill Prison.
