About two-thirds of murders in Northern Ireland in the past 30 years have not resulted in anyone being charged, according to a written reply last night from the British Cabinet Office minister, Lord Falconer of Thoroton.

He told the House of Lords that 2,804 people had been murdered in the North between 1969 and last month, but charges had been brought in respect of 958 murders.
