Moroni - Rival separatist militias on the breakaway Comoros island of Anjouan began a 48-hour ceasefire yesterday, opening the way for negotiations and relief supplies to be sent to the Indian Ocean island. Residents say dozens of people have died on Anjouan since December 5th, when fighting broke out between forces loyal to the island's self-declared President Foundi Abdallah Ibrahim and a rival faction led by Mr Chamassi Said Omar.
