Cattle seized near Border

Gardai yesterday seized seven cattle from land at Hackballscross, near Inniskeen, Co Monaghan, just a few miles from the Border. They were seized under the recent regulations to combat the spread of BSE. According to a Garda spokesman, some of the cattle were tagged and others were not. Gardai are acting on the assumption the cattle came from Northern Ireland, he said. They were about 18 months old. The cattle were taken to the pound in Monaghan.
