Eleven cattle have been seized by the Department of Agriculture and gardai from lands near Mullingar, Co Westmeath, on suspicion that they might have been smuggled from Northern Ireland.
A spokesman for the Department said its officials are examining the animals to determine their origin.
All cattle imports from the North have been banned since March 25th.
