A Podcast designed to encourage young people to take up pensions has been launched by The Pensions Board.

The initiative is part of the 2008 National Pensions Action Campaign which aims to highlight the importance good pension provision, particularly in sectors which have the lowest pension coverage in Ireland.

People in the 25 - 35 age bracket are a key target for the Pensions Board as it hopes to encourage individuals to start their pension early in their working life in order to ensure they have adequate provision for their retirement.

Maura Howe, Project Manager, National Pensions Action Campaign, urged young people to start thinking about their financial future and to download a podcast entitled 'Pensions - the word on the street' from The Pensions Board website ( www.pensionsboard.ie).

Ms Howe said: “Pensions may not be the most glamorous subject but people have a lot of interesting things to say about them. The podcast manages to capture many of these views. You should tune -in and check-out our competition to win an iPod.” Ms. Howe continued “When you’re on the website why not run your numbers through the Pensions Calculator.”

The Board says it is important that the pension message reaches people before they start their first job so as to encourage behavioural change towards spending.
