A JUDGE in Dublin District Court has freed a man who pleaded guilty to three crimes, including burglary, saying there was no point in sending him to prison because the sentence would not be implemented and he would be let out again.
Judge Gerard Haughton said: "There is no point making an order that is going to be laughed at by the accused and others." The judge said he would make no order in the case and the man received no penalty.
Mark Cowap (23), of St Mary's Road, East Wall, Dublin, pleaded guilty to committing burglary and larceny offences between June and August last.
Judge Haughton was told Cowap had seven previous convictions and had been sentenced to serve 18 months in prison on December 5th last, but had been released in March.
"I cannot be satisfied that any order will be implemented and I am making no order," the judge said. The case against the defendant was dropped and he was freed on the three charges against him.
