Bruton urged to meet Mubarak

The Irish Cattle Traders' and Stockowners' Association has urged the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, to meet President Mubarak in Egypt if such a meeting would enhance the possibility of reopening the Egyptian live trade.

An emergency meeting of the organisation in Portlaoise last night called for political intervention to prevent what it called catastrophe for more than 40,000 Irish cattle farmers facing financial ruin because of the BSE crisis.
