Brother and sister die in Glasgow house fire

Two children were killed and their grandparents injured in a house fire at Newarthill, near Glasgow early today.

Two children were killed and their grandparents injured in a house fire at Newarthill, near Glasgow early today.

Sister and brother Ashley (4) and William (3) Scott, were staying with their grandparents, Peter and Isla Morrison. The alarm was raised just after 6 a.m. when the blaze was spotted by police officers patrolling the area on foot.

Scottish police said Mr Morrison was taken to Wishaw General Hospital, where his condition was described as serious.

His wife was taken to Monklands District Hospital, Airdrie.

A police spokeswoman said officers and firefighters were conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.

Strathclyde Fire Brigade said the house was "severely damaged" in the blaze.
