MEMBERS OF the public have been invited to give their views on issues such as accountability and diversity in broadcasting, in a new consultation process which opened yesterday.
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has produced its first draft strategy, setting out its plans for the next three years. It is seeking the public’s views before November 29th.
It sets out a vision for Irish broadcasting and includes goals such as strengthening transparency and accountability, promoting responsible broadcasting and providing a range of services.
It says it will continue to advocate for the commercial take-up of digital terrestrial television, to provide audiences with more choice.
The strategy contains the goal of ensuring plurality in Irish broadcasting and says it is essential the Irish population has confidence and trust in the ownership, impartiality and objectivity of broadcast news and information sources.
The authority’s chairman, Bob Collins, said it would like to hear people’s views on these issues.
