A campaign to encourage people in Britain to vote in the next elections to the European Parliament on June 10th 1999 was launched in London last month by Home Secretary, Jack Straw and Pauline Green MEP. It is being organised by the Institute for Citizenship, with the support of the European Parliament, and aims to explain the proportional representation system which voters in Britain will use for the first time next year to elect MEPs.
