Two teenagers pretending to be police officers robbed and assaulted an 80-year-old woman living in sheltered accommodation in Co Tyrone last night.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the two youths forced their way into the house in Parkview Fold, Castlederg, at about 10.30 p.m.

The woman occupant confronted the two boys, believed to be in their early teens, in the hallway.

They grabbed her and began shaking her, telling her they were police officers. They then stole her handbag and escaped.

The woman, who managed to alert neighbours, was not physically injured but was left badly shaken by the incident.

The PSNI have appealed for anyone with any information to contact detectives in Strabane.
