A boy of 12 who was described as academically bright and talented at sports but who dropped out of school two years ago and began taking drugs is to be placed in a residential unit outside Dublin.

At the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice Kelly told the boy it would be a tragedy if he did not continue with the help now being given him. The boy told the judge he had seen his new accommodation and was happy with it and he would not run away.

The boy's placement in a residential unit in Dublin had led to a "fantastic change" in the child, his father told the court. Mr Justice Kelly said he would review the matter again on July 30th.
