Tennis:Bjorn Borg has backed Roger Federer to become only the third man in the Open era to complete the grand slam of all four major titles after watching him equal his Wimbledon record on Centre Court.

Federer wrapped up his fifth successive All England Club crown with a  thrilling 7-6 4-6 7-6 2-6 6-2 victory over Rafael Nadal, drawing him level with the Swede - who claimed five consecutive titles between 1976 and 1981.

Despite being stretched to five sets to see off the Spaniard, Borg believes  the Swiss superstar can step up to challenge on the red clay of Roland Garros, and claim the only Grand Slam title that still eludes him.

Borg said: "I think Roger can definitely win the grand slam. Nadal is  unbelievably tough to beat on clay but Roger has the game to do it. He badly  wants to win the French Open and why not next year?"

Rod Laver and Andre Agassi are the only players to have won all four titles  in the Open era. Borg won six French Open titles to add to his five  Wimbledons, but was runner-up four times at the US Open and only played in  Australia once.

Borg added: "I believe deep down Roger believes he can win it. It's tough to  win Paris and Wimbledon in the same year because it is two completely  different tournaments.

"You play in Paris then you have to travel and play Wimbledon. After those  two major tournaments you are pretty well mentally and physically exhausted  because you put so much effort into it."

Borg was the last player to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the  same year, achieving the feat on three occasions in 1978, 1979 and 1980.

Federer's victory prevented Nadal emulating that record, but Borg also believes Nadal has a bright future ahead.

"He's a physical  player and the key is motivation and avoiding injuries," added Borg. "But if he stays away from injuries he can play for a long time."
