The Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) has said bookings for the first six months of 2003 at their Tourist Information Centre in Dublin are up over 50 per cent on the same period last year.

The NITB said general enquiries have increased by over 20 per cent.

Traditionally, July is not a very busy month for the tourism industry in Northern Ireland; however, during the month of July there was a 48 per cent increase in enquiries through NITB's Tourist Information Centre on Nassau Street in Dublin.

"The peaceful marching season this year has no doubt contributed to the rise in people travelling North," Ms Sinéad Grace, NITB's manager in the Republic of Ireland said.

"There is definitely a sense of greater optimism this year amongst the hotel sector in Northern Ireland".

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board has been selling in euro to encourage as many visitors from the Republic as possible to travel to Northern Ireland.
