The body of a man discovered in a house in New Ross, Co Wexford, may have been there for up to a month.

A postmortem examination will be carried out on the remains of the 49-year-old, who was found yesterday evening.

The alarm was raised by neighbours on the Charlton Hill estate in New Ross who had not seen the man for some time.

Gardaí, who are not treating the death as suspicious, discovered him when they forced their way in to the property.

A Garda spokeswoman said the body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital for a postmortem.

“This will determine the nature of the investigation but at this stage there is nothing to suggest foul play was involved,” she added.

In March, the body of a pensioner who died in a small terrace house in Wexford town centre over Christmas was discovered.

A woman passing the house in Lower John Street noticed a Christmas tree with lights on and called gardaí.
