LONDON - British blood authorities yesterday said they had started screening donors for the human form of "mad cow" disease, in case the deadly brain disease can be passed on through the blood.

Concerns have been rising about a possible epidemic of Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD), the human form of tile illness, since government scientists said a new variant of the disease was probably caused by people eating infected beef.
