Blackburn Rovers' new Turkish striker Hakan Sukur broke his leg during a training session on Friday, according to a report on the club's website.

Sukur, who only joined Blackburn three weeks ago, had been in line to make his debut against Manchester United this afternoon, but is now likely to be on the sidelines for about eight weeks.

The 31-year-old Sukur, released by Italian Serie A club Parma this year, has scored a Turkish record 37 times in 80 internationals.

In Sukur's absence Rovers' boss Graeme Souness sticks with United old boys Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke up front for this afternoon's match at Ewood Park.
