Abuja - A bill introduced into Nigeria's lower house of parliament this week seeks to control the use of sirens in cars used by officials and their spouses.

The Indiscriminate Use of Sirens (Prohibition) Bill seeks to limit the number of officials allowed to drive in convoys with sirens blaring, and the occasions on which they can use horns, spreading alarm on the road.

Politicians, government officials, local council representatives and "people of all ranks" were among the offenders, a spokesman said.
