The man responsible for having generations of naughty little girls nicknamed Minnie the Minx unleashed some mischief of his own when he opened an exhibition in a Dublin gallery yesterday.

The Beano artist Mr Leo Baxendale is best known as the instigator of pages of havoc played out through his comic creations, the Bash Street Kids. Mr Baxendale first created his legendary Beano characters almost 50 years ago.

But yesterday the 70-year-old artist was on best behaviour to open the gates to a satirist's heaven with a show that frames politicians and cuts celebrities down to size.

The exhibition features the works of sculptor Stephen Dee, who creates miniature porcelain caricatures of well-known figures from Bertie to Bono, and Tom Mathews, who is showing cartoons published in The Irish Times and Hot Press over the past year.
