ON Thursday night the Ambassador's residence was again an open house for the participants in the Phoenix Park Cup Golf Tournament marquee was put up in the rounds and the 250 guests enjoyed sit down meal on, the very balmy night. The event is to help fund Irish Fulbright scholarships and over a third of the guests flew in from America including long time Hibernophile Paul Berry from ABC, TV in Washington.
Peter Townsend was there with his fiancee Sofia Rydsater and he gave a golf clinic it has to be the first time a golf lesson stopped a glittering party. Among the golf playing party goers were Dr Patrick Hillery, Christy O'Connor Snr, Matt Doyle, Ronan Collins and Niall Toibin.
The hugely entertaining compare for the night was golf fanatic Myles Dungan causing someone to remark that maybe he should take over the Rose of Tralee job now that Gay has stepped down.
Despite early tee off times at Druid's Glen the following morning, the party adjourned to the ballroom for dancing until the early hours.
