The result of a ballot by the SIPTU union of its Aer Lingus members at Shannon Airport for industrial action up to and including strike action will be known later today.

The union is taking the ballot as part of its opposition to job cuts being proposed by the airline at Shannon.

Last week the airline said it intended to cut its workforce in Shannon by 100 following a "significant decline in third-party [ground] handling business".
