A High Court judge yesterday refused bail to a man charged with the murders of two Dublin men whose bodies were recovered from the Grand Canal, near Celbridge, Co Kildare, in January last year.

Mr Mark Desmond, of Lally Road, Ballyfermot, is charged with the abduction and murders of Mr Patrick Murray (19), of Colepark Drive, Ballyfermot, and Mr Darren Carey (20), of Islandbridge Court, Kilmainham. Both men were shot in the head and their bodies found in the canal.
