The editor of the Church of Ireland Gazette, Canon Cecil Cooper, has won the main prize in the 1996 awards of the Religious Press Association. Among the other award winners at a ceremony in Dublin - yesterday were Ms Mary Troy (best article) for "Respect, Liberation, Equality, Hope, Love" in Doctrine and Life; Father Gerard Moloney, editor of the Redemptorist magazine Reality (best editorial) for "Questions for the Sunday Independent"; Father Michael Paul Gallagher SJ (best series) for "It Gives you Hope" in the Sacred Heart Messenger; and the theologian Ms Anne Thurston (best article - on a religious topic in the secular media) for "Tears, anger and disbelief as women are excluded from ordination" in The Irish Times's "Rite and Reason" column. The award for best parish newsletter went to the Kilmoremoy News in Co Mayo.
