The Irish Marine Emergency Service will make an attempt in July or August to break the around-Ireland speed record. The 11-year-old record stands at 33 hours and 34 minutes over 704 miles. The attempt will be made in a rigid inflatable boat and is in aid of several charities, including the Micheal Heffernan Trust Fund, set up in memory of a volunteer rescue diver who died in 1997.
