British army bomb disposal experts yesterday made safe an improvised rocket found in a reservoir in the Creggan area of Derry. The discovery of the rocket, by RUC divers, followed a day long search of land adjoining the reservoir on Thursday.

Sinn Fein had earlier described the search operation as "communal harassment".

An RUC spokesman said the device was made safe after a controlled explosion was carried out on the rocket's warhead.

He said it was not known how long the device had been in the water.
