ANKARA - The highest Turkish military body yesterday expelled scores of Islamic fundamentalist officers from the armed forces, sources said.

"The Supreme Military Council has decided to cut the links of 33 officers and 36 noncommissioned officers with the armed forces for reasons of discipline and morality," the Turkish General Staff said in a statement.

However, reliable sources said many of the men were expelled from the army due to their Islamic fundamentalist connections.
