Two armed men have escaped with an undisclosed sum of money following a bank robbery in Co Westmeath.

Two armed men have escaped with an undisclosed sum of money following a bank robbery in Co Westmeath.

The men are believed to have entered the AIB in Moate armed with a knife and a gun at around 2.30 this afternoon.

Gardaí said they made off with a sum of money in a dark green BMW with a 91D registration.

The car was later found abandoned at Tubber. Gardaí said the car had been stolen in Athlone yesterday.
