The Arab Football Federation today asked the world football body, FIFA, to suspend Israel for its "actions against the Palestinian people".

The call came in a letter sent by Arab federation chairman Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia.

He urged FIFA to "shoulder its historic responsibilities and take a courageous decision to suspend the Israeli football federation to protect the rights of the Palestinian Football Federation."

The letter also says the Palestinian Football Federation "has had its sports infrastructure destroyed and its leaders and sportsmen killed or put to flight."

Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Syria have already asked FIFA to suspend Israel.

Israel launched an military offensive against Palestinian strongholds on March 29th in riposte to a series of Palestinian suicide bombings.

FIFA has not made a statement.
