... and the new Australia

. Wynns Coonawaira Riesling 1995 (Findlaters, Greenacres Wexford and other outlets, about £7.75).

. Wynns Coonawaira Riesling 1995 (Findlaters, Greenacres Wexford and other outlets, about £7.75).

A new arrival which will doubtless soon be in many Irish wine shops terrifically zingy on the palate, with what I'd described as a ripe grapefruit flavour. It earns its four glasses for quality," four and a half stars for value rating in the Good Australian Wine Guide.

. Mount Langhi Ghiran Riesling 1994 (Superquinn, £7.99).

Another distinctively Australian rendering of Riesling this time with the aromas and flavours of fresh limes. Refreshing, and, even the bottle looks cool. Definitely one to win over sceptics.

. Heggies Riesling 1994 (selected SuperValus, Foleys Cabinteely, Bennetts Howth, Cooneys Harold's Cross, Deveneys Sandyford, Lord Mayor's Swords, Fine Wines Limerick and some other outlets about £8.99).

We have the giant Yalumba to thank for this smashing Riesling packed with pineapple and citrus fruitiness and enough zesty acidity to keep you sipping. See Bottle of the Week.
