John Aldridge tonight resigned as manager of Tranmere Rovers.
His decision came following the relegation-threatened First Division club's 3-2 home defeat by Barnsley.
Tranmere said in a statement: "Following Tranmere Rovers' defeat at home to Barnsley this afternoon, the board of directors have accepted the resignation of John Aldridge as manager of the football club."
Tranmere's latest league defeat leaves them rooted at the foot of the First Division, one point behind Queens Park Rangers and five behind fourth-from-bottom Stockport County.
