A report in The Irish Times on Thursday by Security Editor Jim Cusack said the pilot of the Air Corps helicopter, which crashed at Tramore on July 2nd, 1999, "flew the helicopter into a sand dune".
The Irish Times and Jim Cusack wish to apologise to the family of the helicopter pilot if the newspaper's report implied that the pilot might have been in any way to blame for the accident. This was not the newspaper's intention.
The report of the official inquiry into the crash did not cite pilot error as a cause of the accident. The inquiry report listed 17 other causes.
