Sinn Féin President Mr Gerry Adams will today brief his party on the peace process as hopes of a breakthrough in the impasse over devolution continued to fade.
The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, and the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, are expected to come under increasing pressure to "park" until autumn efforts to entice the IRA into abandoning paramilitary activities.
Parties in the North were anxiously watching the summit of European Union leaders in Athens to see if Mr Blair and Mr Ahern would announce today they were halting their initiative to restore devolution.
Sinn Féin said Mr Adams and fellow negotiator Mr Martin McGuinness would brief colleagues in Julianstown, Co Meath, on efforts to persuade the British and Irish to release their blueprint for the full implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.
A spokesman said: "Gerry and Martin will be setting out to the ardchomhairle the events of the past few days. They will also be sounding out the ardchomhairle and discussing where we go from here".
