Loyalist Johnny Adair (37) was given the go-ahead today to proceed with a legal challenge over his return to prison.

In the High Court in Belfast the former UFF leader was granted leave to apply for a judicial review of the decision by the Sentence Review Commissioners last January that he was not entitled to remain free on licence.

Lawyers for the Shankill Road man have claimed the commissioners abused his human rights when they upheld the government's decision to return him to prison last August.

The case was adjourned until May 4th to fix a timetable for the hearing.
