The Minister for the Marine, Dr Woods, is to be asked to intervene in a dispute between anglers in Ballina, Co Mayo, and the Central Fisheries Board.where they are objecting to restrictions, increased evening charges for angling and an alleged failure by the Central Fisheries Board to carry out developments to angling pools.
Criticising the construction of deflectors in a section of the river, Mr Greg Mullen, an angler, said: "We want water and not rock. It is like placing concrete on the golf courses at Rosses Point and Ballina. This great natural amenity has been destroyed for all time."
