The Supreme Court has fixed January 15th for the hearing of the State's appeal against the High Court decision to uphold a challenge by 36 garda∅ to an Oireachtas sub-committee inquiry into the shooting dead of John Carthy in Abbeylara, Co Longford, in April 2000.

The court found several defects in the manner in which the sub-committee had conducted the inquiry.
