ONE THIRD of the Republic's adult population watched Michelle Smith win her third Olympic Gold Medal.

The figures, compiled by the Media Bureau, which produces figures for advertisers, do not account for people watching the event in pubs.

The research also shows that over a quarter of all viewers watched Francis Barrett win his first boxing bout an hour later.

The bureau predicts viewing figures could reach 50 per cent of the adult population for races involving Sonia O'Sullivan.
