Seven gardai are to be charged in connection with last May's Reclaim the Streets demonstration on Dame Street in Dublin following an investigation by the Garda Assistant Commissioner, Mr Tony Hickey.

The seven, are all facing assault charges and are members of the Dublin Metropolitan District.

All seven gardai have been confined to desk duty pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

Twenty-four people were arrested during the "reclaim the streets" rally in Dublin that degenerated into ugly clashes between gardaí and protesters on May 6th this year.

Several people needed hospital treatment after gardai used batons against the protestors.
