OAXACA CITY - Six inmates were killed and 55 others injured yesterday during a battle, with guns and Molotov cocktails and iron bars, between rival prison gangs in the southern city of Oaxaca, authorities said.

Mr Benjamin Soriano, of the local Mexican League for the Defence of Human Rights, who was later allowed visit the prison, said the clash erupted when rival gangs fought for the right to represent the prison population on a "board of directors".
