Bogota - FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) guerrillas blasted through a jail wall in the Colombian capital to free rebel inmates but guards killed five rebels and wounding 12 inmates, authorities said yesterday.

Police recaptured 36 inmates, a mixture of rebels and common criminals, a Prison Institute spokesman said.

FARC rebel prisoners hurled grenades and opened fire at guards as they sprinted to freedom.
