London - New "consultant nurses" who will earn up to £40,000 a year were announced by the British Prime Minister, Mr Blair yesterday as he unveiled his government's new national nursing strategy.
The consultant nurses will have managerial duties but will also continue to spend time in the wards caring for patients. Nursing unions welcomed the announcement.
