Algiers - Troops have killed 27 Muslim rebels, most of them in a forest in southwestern Algeria, in latest military operations, local newspapers said yesterday.

Nineteen members of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA), were shot dead over the past few days in the forest near Tiaret, 220 km south-west of Algiers, the daily L'Authentique said.
