Up to 20,000 people are expected in Dublin on Saturday to participate in the international day of protest against a war in Iraq.

The Irish leg of the protest takes place in Dublin, starting at the Garden of Remembrance in Parnell Square at 2 p.m.

Speakers will include the Labour Party's Michael D. Higgins, the Green Party's Patricia McKenna, SIPTU's Des Geraghty, ICTU General Secretary David Begg and Sinn Fein's Aonghus O Snodaigh.

At a press conference Mr Richard Boyd-Barrett said: "Everybody who opposes the killing of innocents for oil and power must play their part and come onto the streets this Saturday."

Millions are expected at anti-war protests in capital cities across the globe on Saturday as the US-led build-up to war in Iraq continues.
